Razonne and Jerry's special day.......

Wedding at Rondekuil Estates

A few months ago you may recall that I posted photos of Razonne and Jerry's couple shoot in Betty's Bay. This was such a fun shoot that I was really excited and looking forward to their wedding day. Their exuberance and joy at finally saying their vows was palpable and you will no doubt agree that this couple looked absolutely stunning on their day! They laughed and smiled all the way through the day, and the fact that their best man forgot to bring the rings to the ceremony did not ruin the day but even enhanced the day by cracking them up with laughter while they waited for their rings to be brought to the ceremony! These two are so well loved by their family and friends, evidenced by the amazing speeches given during the evening celebrations!

Razonne and Jerry, thank you for choosing Catchlight Image Photograhy to capture your very special day! We loved every minute of your wedding.

Family photoshoot on Blaauwberg Beach!

I was recently contacted by Iris to photograph her beautiful family on Blaauwberg Beach in the Cape as they were visiting from Germany, and had brought their 5 month old daughter, Charlotte, with them!

Charlotte was so very sweet during her first international photoshoot, she giggled right on cue when her daddy danced behind me, she smiled with joy when it was her mom's turn to dance to get her to smile! What a gorgeous little girl!

Photoshoot with the Betty's Bay penguins

Introducing Kathrin and her family who spent some time holidaying in and around the Cape, ending up in Betty's Bay as their son, Max, loves penguins, and what better place to see them in their natural surroundings but to stop off at the local penguin colony in Betty's Bay!

My brief was that they wanted photos to record their trip out to Betty's and the penguins and that they didn't want posed photos but rather photos taken of them having fun and just being themselves!

Enjoy a peak into one of their days having fun!

Family Shoot in Pringle Bay South Africa

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing the Roets Family in Pringle Bay, South Africa. What made this shoot extra special was that the great grandparents were also down in the Cape for their summer holiday, and 4 generations of Roets family members, carry the name Elisabeth. You will see the photo of the Elisabeth clan!

A lot of fun was had and especially the little girls who naturally were the stars of the show!

Go ahead and enjoy the photos!

Svetlana and Ralf....an international love story!

"From Russia with love.....!"

Svetlana and Ralf said their vows in a small town in Germany called Griesheim surrounded by close family!

Svetlana looked amazing in her Moscow designed wedding dress and Ralf of course looked chic in his wedding attire! Their ceremony was unique in that a Russian translator was at hand to assist Svetlana with any difficulties which she may have had with the German language, and thus everything went by smoothly and within a short time, Svetlana and Ralf were bound together for life.

Earlier that week, the weather was pretty much dodgy to say the least but on their special day, Svetlana and Ralf were very much blessed by superb weather so that after their wedding ceremony and champagne toast, we were able to slip away and do their couple shoot!!

Enjoy your photos, Svetlana and Ralf!

Engagement shoot in Hermanus

A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of meeting Jayde and Jody in order to discuss their wedding arrangements as well as to do their couple shoot!! I love doing couple shoots before a wedding as that way we get to know each other and get to have some relaxed fun before the stress of the big day arrives!!

We met in Hermanus and decided to do our shoot in the old harbour which provided a wonderful backdrop for our photos!! Jayde and Jody were wonderful in front of the camera, and I so look forward to their wedding!!

Have a look at their photos and see for yourself!!

Family shoot at Silver Sands Beach Betty's Bay in South Africa

As most of you who know me well, know that I love animals, especially dogs, and this love led me to sponsor a free shoot for Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) in January while I was spending a few weeks in our home in Bettys Bay!

The idea was that KAWS would sell tickets with the first and second prize being either a family or a couple shoot, with all proceeds of the ticket sales going to KAWS.

One of the winners was young Ingrid Dave who won the family shoot and the amazing thing is that her dad is the local vet seeing to the animals up at KAWS!!

We decided to do the family shoot on Silver Sands Beach in Bettys Bay and of course, no family shoot is complete unless you bring the family fur babies with and so I got to meet Ella, the beagle and Joey, the young golden retriever! I was thrilled to meet the whole family and the shoot including Ella was especially poignant since Ella was diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago!

Silver Sands Beach is a beautiful beach, with a majestic backdrop being Hangklip in the background and of course, it goes without saying that the sand dunes are awesome, so awesome that the family had a wonderful time running down the dunes for their photos!

I had a wonderful time with the Dave Family, both 2 legged and 4 legged members and hope that you enjoy looking at the photos as much as I enjoyed photographing the Dave Family!

Model shoot with Noel in Cape Town

Cape Town model shoot

During one of my trips home to Cape Town, i made contact with Noel who was keen to do a shoot since he was going to be in Cape Town at the same time!! Model shoots are something which I really enjoy doing and sadly find that I don't do enough of!! So just a quick hint, if you are a model, wannbe model and would like to work with me, then please contact me!!

Table Mountain as a backdrop

The day which was scheduled for our shoot which was initially meant to be at one of Cape Town's gorgeous beaches, turned out to be a windy day.....actually it turned out to be a mega windy day, the kind of day where if you are wearing a dress or skirt, you definitely need weights in your hemline to keep from flashing your undies to all and sundry!! So after meeting at the beach it was decided that unless we wanted to be constantly chewing on sand, it would be best to move the shoot and drive to Table Mountain and have the gracious old lady as a mega backdrop!!

Noel, my model, did an amazing job trying to keep his composure while battling howling winds, Amber, our make up artist did an awesome job, while not only watching that our equipment stayed safe but that Noel and I did not get run over by any tourist buses while shooting along Table Mountain road!!

Model: Noel Schmidt

Make up artist: Amber Brandt (amberbrandt0@gmail.com)

Sarah and Darren...their love story captured in Cape Town!

Love at first sight

Darren and Sarah met several years ago in Cape Town, and according to Darren's friends, the same night he met her, he told his friends that he had met his future wife!! Quite a few years later, and here you are, reading this blog post and looking at their wedding photos!

You will all agree with me that Sarah was a most beautiful bride, and when walking down the aisle, Darren was moved to tears and was certainly not afraid to let all of his emotions come pouring out!! Theirs is a beautiful love story, and is evident in their photos!

Sara and Stuart, a magical wedding at Zewenwacht Wine Estate

By now you will most probably have seen the recent couple photos which I did for Sara and Stuart at gorgeous Llandudno Beach, and am sure that on looking at these photos, if you only noticed one thing, it would definitely be how much these two love each other!! They have each found their soul mates, their best friends and their partners for life!

I was privileged to be their wedding photographer and to bear witness to their love, and to their vows being said in front of all their friends and family! The backdrop for their wedding was Zewenwacht Wine Estate which you will all agree is a simply stunning location!

Sara and Stuart have known each other for 10 years, and their love and friendship is definitely something which shines through on all of their photos!

But don't take my word for it... see for yourselves!

I hope that you enjoy looking at the photos as much as I enjoyed capturing these very special moments!

Tamzyn and Dewald...capturing their love story in Cape Town

Cape Town summer wedding at Ashanti Wine Estate

A few months back you will have seen Tamzyn and Dewald's couple shoot photos on my blog and now, at the beginning of February, I was honoured to capture their wedding at gorgeous Ashanti Wine Estate, in Paarl, South Africa!

For those of you who know Cape Town, a wedding in February can only but bring gorgeous weather and in this department, Tamzyn and Dewald were truely blessed!! I recall that the temperature was in the region of around 37 degrees!!!

Our day started by capturing the 2 getting ready at The Crystal Palace Hotel in Canal Walk, before we all made our way to Ashanti Wine Estate where the wedding ceremony would take place as well as the festivities afterwards!

I was truely honoured to capture your wedding day and to bear witness to your love story, Tamzyn and Dewald!! I loved every minute of your day, from capturing you both getting ready, to witnessing you saying your vows, and to spending time with you both while we went off to do your couple photos!! We really had some fun there!

Thank you both for choosing me to be your wedding photographer!

Sara and Stuart...engagement shoot at Llandudno Beach, Cape Town!!

Sara and Stuarts engagement shoot was an absolute fun event!! I am sure, having met most of their friends now, since their wedding was 2 weeks ago, their friends will ALL concur with me that Sara and Stuart are one crazy, fun loving and totally in love couple!!

Gorgeous Llandudno Beach as a backdrop for amazing coupleshoot

Llandudno Beach is an awesome place to shoot at and it did not let me down, providing a beautiful, almost majestic background for Sara and Stuart!! Not only was the light fantastic, but the sheer size of some of the boulders can only be described as having a wow effect!!

I don't think I need to write down in detail how much fun was had, just take a look at these photos and see for yourself and then get ready, because in a little while, I will be ready to blog Sara and Stuarts beautiful and yet again, fun-filled wedding!

Introducing Alet!

Fun shoot in Kleinmond South Africa!

A little while back I had the pleasure of photographing Alet on Kleinmond Beach in the Western Cape, South Africa!!

From the first moment, Alet was an absolute natural in front of the camera and we had a lot of fun together producing these photos, whether we were playing with scarves, or simply running back from the waters edge to avoid being splashed by the waves, we simply had FUN!!!

Summer shoot from South Africa to Germany

One of the things which I love most about my job, besides of course getting to meet so many great people, is that I am able to travel and capture summer in Cape Town, before heading north again and eventually capturing summer in Germany!!

Look forward to capturing YOU in front of my camera soon!!

Enjoy seeing Alet on Kleinmond Beach!

The Aubrey du Preez Memorial Shoot 0.1

So if you have read my "From the heart" page, then you will understand how important the shoot which are you looking at, is! I always choose to present the photos from the "Aubrey du Preez Memorial shoot" in black and white, as besides being my favourite medium, I also believe that black and white captures more emotion than colour photos!! That being said, I do however choose to have one photo in colour and that one photo, to me, represents hope and the future!! This is also always the last photo in the gallery!

Below is an extract of Andra's story in her own words!

"Hi everyone. My name is Andra and I would like to share my story with you.

In 2012, 33 years old, I was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer. Because of other reasons I had to do a laparoscopy and the doctors found out about the cancer by accident. As I didn’t have any pain , it would have grown without any notice. After the doctors also identified lymph metastases in my thorax I underwent chemotherapy for the next 3 years. That sounds pretty long and awful, but it was well-tolerated and I didn't have much pain. Parallel I did and still do a lot of homeopathy treatments to strengthen my immune system. It helped very much to cope with the adverse reaction and against all expectations I didn’t lose my hair. This fact helped me a lot, because people didn’t recognize that I was sick on the first sight.  Of course I stopped working and focused 100% on my health. In August 2015 I decided to give my body a break. By then the tumor didn’t show any activity and had not grown. Now I have check-ups every 3 month and hope everything stays like this.

Of course I was in shock, when I found out that I have cancer, but from the start I was very positive that I will beat it. Before I found out everything in my life worked out like I planned it but at this point my body told me to STOP. My immune system was down, and I didn’t pay enough attention to my health. This has changed!

At the moment I enjoy my life to the fullest and try to use every day. Even if the disease is very bad, it has given me a lot of positive moments. That might sound odd, but whenever I could, I used my spare time to do things for which I had no time before the disease. For example I started to join an acting class, which I hadn’t done since High School.

Four and a half years after the diagnosis cancer I’m very fortunate to be around and I would like to thank Gayle for her passion to photography and her opportunity to take part in “The Aubrey du Preez Memorial Shoot”.

Never stop fighting!"

Married in Austria......photos done in Cape Town on their honeymoon!

The fact that I met Laura and Ivan was really down to an amazing coincidence!!

They got married in Austria during the summer and as time and careers permitted, they decided to take their honeymoon in Cape Town during early November!! This is clearly when the stars were already aligning our meeting, because as luck would have it, I was also planning on going back to Cape Town during November!! So you have on the one hand, a young Austrian couple planning their honeymoon in Cape Town, naturally flying from Vienna on Emirates airline, and yours truely, planning a trip home, from Frannkfurt to Cape Town, also on Emirates, via Dubai!!

The next amazing alignment of the stars making sure that we met, was that they happened to sit in front of me on the flight from Dubai down to Cape Town!! Emirates being the good, service orientated airline that they are, delivered a honeymoon cake to the young couple which of course immediately got my attention and so I gave them my card, after telling them that I am a wedding photographer and the rest as we say, is history!!

We met up a few days later in Cape Town, Laura wearing her beautiful wedding dress, Ivan in dress clothes, but sadly he forgot to pack fancy shoes, but hey, no problem when you are doing a shoot mostly at the beach, then surely barefoot is the way to go!!

Laura and Ivan, I so enjoyed meeting the two of you, photographing the two of you and then joining you for breakfast after our shoot!! I hope that the rest of your honeymoon was awesome and that you had a good safe flight back to Austria!

Enjoy your photos!

Sarah and Darren, a photoshoot in the streets of Cape Town!

I met Sarah and Darren during November in the middle of Cape Town for their engagement shoot!! They were very specific about incorporating Cape Town into their background and I must admit that this was quite a lot of fun especially on a late Friday afternoon, with loads of Capetonians bustling away on their way home or on their way to get their well earned Friday night cocktail!!

Sarah and Darren met a few years back while Sarah was still at University and according to Sarah, she made Darren work for her attention and made him wait somewhat before she finally acknowledged that Darren is the one!!

Sarah and Darren, it was lovely to meet the both of you in November, and I so look forward to photographing your wedding day in April 2017!! It's going to be simply awesome!!

See you soon!

Tamzyn and Dewald

During a trip home to Cape Town in November, I had the opportunity to photograph Tamzyn and Dewald's engagement shoot!! All of this was organised while i was here in Germany, and thus this was the first time that we met, but sometimes there are just people who you click with, and within a few minutes, we were laughing, chatting as if we had met years ago!!

Tamzyn and Dewald met a couple of years back through mutual friends, but at the time, Tamzyn was not free, so Dewald waited patiently until his future wife was free, and the  rest as they say, "is history!"

Tamzyn and Dewald, it was such a privilege to meet you both and to work with you!!

I am super excited to photograph your wedding in February 2017!!

Enjoy your photos!

Autumn mini shoot in Germany

Mini autumn family shoot in Germany!

On Friday I had the pleasure of Nadine and her 3 children in front of my camera for a quick autumn mini shoot!! I must say that as much as I love summer, there is something to be said for beautiful soft autumn light!! The children loved playing with the leaves and this was pretty much a bit of an ice breaker as who doesn't love to gather autumn leaves and to throw them into the air with wild abandon!!

We are all, after all, just kids at heart!!

Enjoy!!
